Dr. Ernest Barratt Memorial

Dr. Ernest Barratt was the inspiration for and founding president of, the International Society for Research on Impulsivity.  The intent of forming this organization was to facilitate new generations of researchers to advance a field he was so instrumental in creating.

Dr. Barratt was an international leader in the study of impulsivity across a diverse array of clinical populations.  Considered the father of impulsivity research owing to his long standing contribution to advancing impulsivity research, including treatment, and assessment.  Among his many notable contributions, Dr. Barratt was the developer of the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, the most commonly published impulsive questionnaire for the past 50 years.

Is a great loss to International Society for Research on Impulsivity and the field when Dr. Barratt passed away on August 29, 2005. He will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues.  The society retains a memorial at the annual meeting of the International Society for Research on Impulsivity will be dedicated to the immense impact that Dr. Barratt had on impulsivity research.
